THE RETURN OF STANDARDIZED TESTING
Over the last several years, many universities adopted
test-optional admissions policies. More recently, a growing number of institutions have begun reinstating testing requirements as part of the admissions process.
1926
SAT Introduced. Adapted from Army IQ tests, the SAT was first administered to a few thousand high school students. Harvard soon adopted the exam to evaluate scholarship candidates, viewing it as a meritocratic way to identify academic talent outside of elite East Coast prep schools.
A slow but growing test-optional movement began to take root. Schools like Bowdoin College (1969) and later the University of Chicago (2018) dropped their requirements, arguing that standardized tests disproportionately favored wealthy families who could afford tutoring and were not the sole predictors of college success.

Today, higher education is currently split into two distinct camps:
The top tier has returned to testing: At the most highly selective universities, standardized testing is effectively mandatory again. All eight Ivy League schools (with Columbia officially reinstating its requirement in June 2026), Stanford, MIT, Caltech, Georgetown, and many others now require SAT or ACT scores for admission.
The broader market remains optional, but highly competitive: Over 90% of four-year colleges still operate under test-optional or test-blind policies. However, applicant behavior has shifted drastically. At selective universities that are still test-optional, roughly 80–85% of applicants are now choosing to submit scores.

Classes meet on Saturday afternoons from 12 to 2 pm via Zoom. Exact meeting times are confirmed upon enrollment based on cohort availability.

Each cohort is capped at eight students. Enrollment closes once a cohort reaches capacity.

You will need a computer, a stable internet connection, a Zoom account, and a completed pre-course diagnostic. Diagnostic instructions are provided after enrollment.
